Canelo: Mayweather thinks boxers have to wait for him and be intimidated

canelo555By Dan Ambrose: On Mayweather vs. Canelo ALL ACCESS, WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) griped about Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) keeping him waiting by being a little late for one of their press conferences as part of their 11 city tour.

Instead of seeing it as Mayweather likely getting caught up in traffic, Canelo seemed to get a distorted view of the situation by imagining it as a case of Mayweather trying intimidation tactics.

Canelo said “He [Mayweather] thinks boxers have to wait for him and be intimidated. I’m not intimidated by anyone.”

That doesn’t make any sense at all how Canelo is seeing things. How is it that Mayweather Jr. is trying to intimidate Canelo by being late? That might be a passive-aggressive move by Mayweather if he did intentionally, but it’s not something where he’s trying to intimidate Canelo. I think Canelo needs to not over-analyze things.

For all we know, Mayweather Jr. was caught in a traffic jam getting to the press conference, and here Canelo is going off on a tangent about Mayweather Jr. trying an intimidation move by being late. If Canelo is going to see things is a warped out manner like this, I think he’s going to be in deep trouble when he gets inside the ring with Mayweather. What is Canelo going to do if Mayweather Jr. starts using feints. Is Canelo going to over-analyze it and come up with some bizarre interpretation about what Mayweather Jr. is doing in the ring?

It just looks Canelo is really young and he’s not seeing things clearly yet. Hopefully someday he’ll be able to put himself into the shoes of other fighters like Mayweather when he gets a little older, and understand him a little bit better.

Mayweather Jr. is boxing’s biggest star, and he can’t go anywhere without being surrounded by people. Being that kind of a star has a way of slowing down any simple function when Mayweather Jr. goes out in public to go someplace. If he’s recognized, people come right up to him and start with the autograph requests.

Canelo says he’s not intimidated by anyone. Well then why isn’t Canelo fighting guys like Gennady Golovkin, who he weighs the same amount as? Why isn’t Canelo fighting Andre Ward. Canelo weighed 172 lbs. for his last fight against Austin Trout. Ward fights in the 168 lb. division. If Canelo isn’t afraid of anyone, then is he fighting guys like Josesito Lopez, a 140 lb. fighter, and not Golovkin?
