Broner: After I beat Maidana, I’m going for Matthysse

broner6545By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) wasn’t too happy to learn that WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) is pulling for Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) to KO him when and if the fight gets made.

Broner didn’t take that news too well and earlier today he went off on his social media site saying he’s going to beat Maidana first and then go after Matthysse to beat him as well.

Broner said on his twitter “You a damn fool if you think ChinoMaidana can beat me. LOL! And when I’m done with this b*** Chino Maidana, I’m go f*** Matthysse up. Easy money.”

This is what Matthysse said about wanting Maidana to beat Broner in an article at RingTV: “I really hope the fight is made with Adrien Broner, and that Maidana takes his head off, because this kid, Broner, talks too much. So like a fellow countryman, I wish the best for Marcos Maidana.”

Broner didn’t like hearing that is Matthysse pulling for Maidana it seems. It’s understandable why Matthysse would want Maidana to beat him, given that Maidana and Matthysse are both from Argentina. It’s understandable why he’d want Maidana to take care of Broner.

However, it would be in Matthysse’s best interest if Broner were to beat Maidana, if and when that fight gets made, because that would set up a huge fight between Matthysse and Broner.

That fight would hinge on whether Matthysse can get past WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in their fight on September 14th on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If Matthysse does his part in beating Garcia, and Broner does his part by beating Maidana, then we could see a huge match-up between Broner and Matthysse by early next year. But there are a lot of things that could go wrong that would mess that fight up starting with Broner getting beaten by Maidana. Matthysse is in a stronger position to win his fight because he matched up well with Garcia, and he’s fighting at a really high level right now.

Broner would be in for a real tough fight against Maidana, as Broner barely beat the light hitting Paulie Malignaggi to win the WBA title last June. Maidana must be really looking forward to fight Broner after seeing that fight because Broner looks vulnerable.
