Warren wants Deontay Wilder for Chisora’s next fight on September 21st

wilder52By Scott Gilfoid: British promoter Frank Warren is hoping to get American heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) to come over to the UK to fight Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11 KO’s) for his next fight date on September 21st at the Copperbox Arena in London, UK.

However, I’m not sure that the 6’7” Deontay will be able to leave the country at this early date. He has a few things he needs to take care of before he can be flying to places like the UK.

Warren said this as quoted by Steve Kim, “We want Deontay Wilder next for our show on September 21st in the Copperbox Arena if he’s got the balls to do it.”

Deontay and Chisora were recently on course to fight each other until Deontay ran into a few problems and that made it impossible for him to fly over to fight Chisora in the UK. It’s not that he didn’t want to fight him, but this issue kept him from being able to make the trip.

I don’t see why Chisora doesn’t come to the United States to fight Deontay. If they want the fight against him, they should fly over to the U.S to make it happen. Deontay is the name here, not Chisora. Deontay is unbeaten, ranked #6 by the WBA, and a former 2008 Olympic heavyweight bronze medalist.

Last time I checked, Chisora is nowhere to be seen in the top tier heavyweight rankings, he’s lost 4 out of his last 7 fights, and he didn’t participate in the Olympics. As such, Chisora should be the one coming to the U.S to fight Wilder in front of his own American fans instead of asking the talent to come to the UK to fight a guy that is clearly struggling with his career and who just won a controversial victory over Malik Scott last night.

Deontay will be fighting next month on August 9th against Siarhei Liakhovich (25-5, 16 KO’s) on Showtime at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA. This will give Deontay a perfect opportunity for him to showcase his talent in front of what will likely be a huge Showtime audience tuning in to see him.

Chisora is lucky that it wasn’t Deontay in the ring with him last night instead of the light hitting Malik Scott, because Chisora was hit an awful look by Scott in this fight. Those right hand shots that Chisora ate from Scott would have been knockout blows if Deontay was the one throwing them. I mean, the guy punches harder than David Haye, and we saw what Haye did to Chisora in knocking him out in the 5th.

I honestly don’t think Chisora would make it out of the 2nd round against the knockout artist Deontay. Once Deontay nailed Chisora with his first clean shot, I could see him getting poleaxed and sent to the canvas face first. That referee that worked last night’s fight could count to 100 and I’m betting that Chisora would be still down wondering where he’s at. The difference in power between Malik Scott’s punches and Deontay’s are worlds apart. Deontay is the biggest puncher the heavyweight division has seen in many, many years, and there’s no way Chisora would be able to take more than 1, possibly two rounds of getting hit with head shots by him.
