Tony Thompson: I’m going to bring the young lion [Price] down on Saturday

price444By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight Tony Thompson (37-3, 25 KO’s) sees himself as a tough hyena about to take down another young lion when he faces the UK’s David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) this Saturday night in their rematch at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

Thompson sees a lot of the same weakness in the tall 6’8” Price that allowed him to pick him off from the herd last February in knocking him out in the 2nd round.

Thompson said to Fightnews “David is a young lion but I’m the hyena. I’m the killer.”

I see this fight going down pretty much just like the last one did in February with Price pouncing on Thompson from the first round like a lion would against a hyena messing with the pack. Price will do well initially in getting some nice shots in for a couple of rounds, but when Thompson starts to swipe back at Price, we’ll likely see the young lion go down once again.

Thompson may be getting up there in age at 41, but he’s still got a strong bite and if he can sink his teeth into Price’s hide, he’ll take him to the ground and have his second kill.

Price has got the better power and the bigger size, but he fights like he’s got no sense and I don’t see that changing for this rematch. Price won’t be able to resist going after Thompson in the 1st round no matter how much advice and training he got from Lennox Lewis.

With Price’s loud British crowd egging him on, he’s going to come out fast just like he did last tine and like he did against all those awful opponents he’d faced in building up his inflated record. Once that happens, Price is going to walk into another right hook or left hand that he doesn’t see coming. Heck, even if Price sees the shot coming, I still see him getting knocked out by it. I don’t think he’s got the chin to be a young lion, and I see Thompson tearing him apart again.
