Schaefer: Danny Garcia isn’t afraid of anyone

garcia5645By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is enjoying the fact that he was able to finally complete the deal for his two Golden Boy fighters WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) to face interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) on the Mayweather-Canelo fight card on September 14th.

Schaefer feels that by Garcia signing to fight Matthysse, it shows that Garcia was never afraid to take the fight with Matthysse from get go. He sure looked afraid after watching Matthysse destroy Lamont Peterson last May.

Schaefer said to RingTV “All these people who wrote Danny was scared of Lucas, well, you just have a lot of egg on your face. Danny Garcia is never scared of anyone. He wanted that fight more than any other fight.”

If Danny really wanted that fight against Matthysse then why did Garcia just finish fighting two past their prime fighters back to back in Erik Morales and Zab Judah? Why did Danny keep saying he didn’t know who Matthysse was when asked by writers, as if he wasn’t a big enough name for him to fight him.

With Matthysse knocking every out, it gave the appearance that Danny was ducking the fight because how can you ignore the interim WBC champion when he’s knocking everyone out the way that Matthysse has been doing in his last 6 fights.

Whether Garcia is afraid or not afraid of Matthysse doesn’t really matter. Garcia is still in a world of hurt when he steps inside the ring with Matthysse on September 14th, and he can be totally fearless and he’s still likely going to be in for a serious beating from Matthysse.

I hope Schaefer is enjoying his moment and savoring it because he’s going to have to soon pick up the pieces of Garcia’s career if and when Matthysse knocks Garcia out on September 14th.

Schaefer needs to start looking at imaginative ways to start hyping Matthysse wants he dispatches Garcia.
