Roach to tell Pacquiao to retire if he gets beaten by Rios on November 23rd

pac89By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) had better win his next fight against Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) on November 23rd or else his trainer Freddie Roach is going to tell Pacquiao to retire from boxing. Roach says Pacquiao will retire if he tells him to.

A loss to Rios would be Pacquiao’s third straight defeat and it would impossible to ignore at that point that his career would be pretty much over unless it was a controversial defeat. But if Pacquiao is still not showing signs of aging, as Roach said in the same interview, then he should be able to easily beat a fighter like Rios.

Roach said in an interview with Yahoo Sports “It’s over, 100 percent [if Rios beats Pacquiao, We have a deal. When I tell him it’s over, he’ll say it’s over and that’s it. He’s pretty loyal with his words and if that happens, it will be the end.”

How come I don’t believe Pacquiao will retire if he loses to Rios? No way do I see Pacquiao retiring even if he gets knocked completely out cold by Rios in the 1st round. The fight is going to make a ton of loot from the Chinese and U.S pay per view for Pacquiao, his promoter Bob Arum and Rios.

I just don’t see Pacquiao retiring with all that money he keep getting each time he fights in Macao, China and with the fights being PPV to the Chinese audiences each time.

Should Pacquiao retire if he gets beaten by Rios? Yes, definitely, but will he retire? I don’t think he will. I can see Pacquiao continuing to fight for another 6 years if his fights keep making him $20 million or more. He’s one of those fighters that have a huge, huge fan base that lets him fight anyone he wants and still make a ton of loot.

I think if Roach tells Pacquiao following a loss to Rios, I don’t think it’s going to happen. Roach can tell Pacquiao to retire, but why would he when he’s making $20 million or more to fight Arum’s fighters. The only thing Pacquiao needs to do is have Arum make some adjustments with the type of guys he puts him in with.

If Pacquiao can move down to 140, he’ll have a better chance of preserving his career as long as he doesn’t fight the likes of Mike Alvarado, Juan Manuel Marquez, Danny Garcia or Lucas Matthysse.
