Pacquiao with no plans of retiring anytime soon

pac73By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz says that Manny doesn’t plan on hanging up his gloves anytime soon, and he’s not thinking of walking away from the sport after his 6th round knockout defeat by Juan Manuel Marquez last December.

I think Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) could have something to say about this. Rios and Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) will be facing each other in four months on November 23rd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Right now, Pacquiao is coming off of consecutive losses to Tim Bradley and Marquez, but Pacquiao is probably not seeing his defeat against Bradley as being a legit once because of the controversy that surrounded the decision.

Pacquiao likely sees his loss to Marquez as being the only legit loss that he suffered of those two. But if Rios is able to KO Pacquiao on November 23rd, he might have to sit back and change his mind about the retirement issue.

What might keep Pacquiao from walking away from boxing is the good cash he’s going to be making by fighting in Macao, China. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is selling the Pacquiao-Rios fight for $5 on paper per view to the Chinese audiences, and if the fight brings in big bank, it might be difficult for Pacquiao to walk away from that kind of cash.

Not only will the Pacquiao-Rios fight be PPV in China, it’s going to be PPV in the United States as well, and Pacquiao won’t be taxed as much because he’s staging the fight in Macao. He’ll have more money because of the lower taxes in Macao, and then he’s going to have all the cash he gets from the Chinese PPV revenue.

I think even if Rios knocks Pacquiao out in the 1st round, we’ll see Pacquiao back in the ring in five or six months after the fight on PPV from Macao. I just wonder what the end point will be before he decides to retire.
