Mayweather starting chant(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Babatis Banda: Controversy has been part of this sport for ages. Even in this modern era, controversy still surrounds the sport and it is what makes it tick in part. Great warriors have come and gone, some too soon and some with a bit more perseverance. On the 14th of September two great unbeaten sportsmen meet to slug it off. One is a huge power punching young man while the other is an artist, a purist of the sport.

Soul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) is the younger, but a lot bigger of the two boxers. It is evident that he is blessed with the ability to box and packs loads of power in his punches. On the other hand, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) is the older, by over 10 years, the smaller of the two, but the most skilled and experienced. For this fight, youth size and power will be pitted against an older pure boxing and experienced mind. This is a fight that will go down in the history books again, not because of the record PPVs only, but because Mayweather will exhibit pure mastery over his foe.

After the fight night, we expect to hear such names as Golovkin, Martinez, Ward etc. While you will be making your wish-list as usual, take time to take your hat off, in respect of the P4P great. Mayweather will no doubt put up another splendid night’s performance. I have always said this about Mayweather. Before and after the fight night, are two different eras. People quickly forget about their utterances before the fight, and after watching Mayweather’s surgical performances all they think of is the next boxer to try his luck.

I will not mince my words on this one. Mayweather’s hands are going to be raised after 12 hard and grueling rounds. I have collected almost all of Mayweather’s fights over the years and he is the most accomplished, the most versatile and the most skilled of them all. One key factor to note is that Canelo will have few opportunities to unload his powerful combinations, Mayweather rarely provides such opportunity. Be sure to take note of this one…in the middle rounds Canelo will become fully aware of what he will be in with and his mind will switch from raw aggression to measured aggression…and that will be the turning point.

After the fight night, remember to salute to the best boxer this era has ever witnessed, it is manly to do so even when you are so repulsed by this fighting great.
