In a previous article I wrote named ‘Mayweather v Canelo: Boxing fraternity give their opinion’, I compiled a list of some of the industry’s biggest names, boxers, coaches, experts and journalists opinions on the dream matchup.

Not a single person in the article stated that they favoured the young Mexican Canelo to win. When conducting the research in order to write the article the only well-known individual I could find who believed Canelo would be victorious was founder of Golden Boy Promotions and Alvarez’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya therefore I could not include his opinion as Oscar is impartial when it comes his view of the bout.

As a boxing journalist I always strive to be unbiased unlike various other writers on web based media sources but it is accurate to say because of your opinion you can be accused of being bias. I aim to construct my articles based on facts and common sense. Therefore as a fan of the ‘sweet science’ and not directly a Mayweather or Canelo fan, I can objectively give my neutral view of this fight.

In my opinion former ‘Pretty Boy’ turned ‘Money’ Mayweather deserves to be the huge favourite in this bout and is going to be victorious due to the following factors.

Floyd without a doubt is the more experienced fighter having fought the elite since 2001 stopping Diego “Chico” Corrales in the 10th round for the WBC Super Featherweight title. Mayweather’s 44-0 record is made of a who’s who of the sport’s top names. Canelo owns an impressive record also, winning 43 wins out of 44 fights, the remaining one was a drawn bout. Although it is safe to say Canelo has fought some stiff competition they were not at the level of Mayweather’s opponents and Saul has only faced 4 former world champions Cintron, Baldomir, Mosley and Trout.

Floyd comes up top trumps when it comes to such elements as speed, accuracy, agility, reflexes, defensive skills, technical intellect and ring craft whereas it is accurate to state Canelo has several advantages; natural size, power and youth. Other factors such as discipline, dedication, lifestyle, mental fortitude and conditioning come into relevance during training prior to the fight and application on the night. By analyzing these various factors it helps to give a diagnostic judgement of the fight instead of letting bias thinking sway an opinion.

To conclude, facts and common sense suggest that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be victorious in this bout, but the beauty of our beloved sport allows the underdog Canelo Alvarez the chance to win as nothing in boxing in certain.
