Mayweather sets the conditions for Pacquiao to fight him

floyd#28By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) gave Filipino Manny Pacquiao a small glimmer of hope on Friday for a potential future mega bout between them by giving him the criteria that he must accept in order to face him. Mayweather said that all Pacquiao has to get a fight with him is to sign with Mayweather Promotions and he’ll agree to fight him.

Pacquiao recently said that he wanted to fight Mayweather after hearing that he called him a “Has-been” during his press tour. Mayweather had called Pacquiao a “has been” because he’d lost his last two fights and was brutally knocked out in his last fight by Juan Manuel Marquez last December. If you remember, Marquez was a fighter that Mayweather easily beat four years ago by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision.

Mayweather Jr. said to Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports “I’m just letting you know that he’s [Pacquiao] not getting a fight with me. The only way he’s getting a fight with me is if he signs with Mayweather Promotions. He’s got to give me fights with Mayweather Promotions. If he don’t give me no fights under Mayweather Promotions, then he’s not getting the fight. That’s how it’s working now.”

That sounds like a fair deal. Pacquiao just has to sign with Mayweather Promotions and he’ll a huge payday fight with Mayweather. It would come at the right time for Pacquiao given that he’s lost his last two fights and he might just lose his next fight as well against Brandon Rios on November 23rd.

Getting a fight against Mayweather under those conditions are normally unheard of, because Mayweather never fights anyone coming off loss, and here Pacquiao might have three straight losses or even more than that depending on how many additional fights he has before he signs with Mayweather Promotions.

If Mayweather does Pacquiao, it would have to be a short term contract because if Pacquiao keeps losing fights, it might not be worth it for Mayweather to have him in his promotional stable for more than 1 year. I’m sure he’d still make cash for Mayweather, but the money would obviously go downwards once Pacquiao is no longer a pay per view attraction.
