Malik Scott: London will be mine on July 20th; Chisora will be exposed

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten American heavyweight contender Malik Scott (35-0-1, 12 KO’s) sees himself as the next guy that exposes the 29-year-old Dereck Chisora (16-4, 10 KO’s) when they meet each other this Saturday night, July 20th, at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Scott said in a recent interview “London will be mine on July 20th. Chisora, there’s nothing he can do about it. If you look at my skills and his skills, he’s overmatched. I’m going to expose him again for the 5th time and I’m going to look good doing it. Every time he steps up he comes up short. He’s known for giving a gallant effort.”

Scott, #13 IBF, #15 WBA, does seem to have the better skills by far compared to Chisora in this fight, and the only things I can give to Chisora in this match-up is experience, power and hometown advantage. The experience isn’t a big deal because Chisora has lost each time he’s stepped up against better opposition, but he still has the better experience than Scott by far. Whether that’ll help him win the fight is unknown.

I think experience helps, but a lot of times it does when you’re talking about a fighter that doesn’t have the same kind of talent as the inexperienced fighter. The power could help Chisora, but then again, Scott has sparred with monster punchers like Deontay Wilder, so I kind of doubt that he’ll be bothered by Chisora’s power.

Chisora’s not in the same class as Deontay is in the power department. The one area where Chisora has a real advantage that could ultimately help him win the fight is with the hometown advantage. Fighting at home in the UK is a real plus, as if the fight goes to the cards there’s no telling what kind of scores will see.

Also on the card will be super bantamweight contender Carl Frampton facing an older fighter from the super flyweight division Everth Briceno in what shapes up to be a mismatch in age and size for the 26-year-old Frampton. Middleweight Billy Joe Saunders will be facing Gary O’Sullivan in a scheduled 12 round bout.
