By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) figures that his September 28th fight against undefeated heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) will be Fury’s first and last real opportunity for a big fight because the loss that Fury suffers in this fight will be so conclusive that it will prevent him from getting another opportunity in the future.
In other words, Fury will have been exposed and that will keep from getting another big money fight like this one.
Haye said this as quoted by thesun.co.uk “I believe this will be his last shot at the big time and I’m happy to give him a nice payday. I’m going to show him why I’m the Hayemaker. This guy’s got such a lack of coordination.”
I don’t know if this will be Fury’s last shot at a big fight. If he loses this fight, his promoter will just put him back on the fodder diet of weak opposition for another year or two until he gets a world title shot.
It might actually help Fury get a title shot by getting knocked out quickly by Haye, because I can see the Klitschkos showing interest in fighting Fury if he gets blown out by Haye. They wouldn’t fight him right away, but a year from now, definitely I think Wladimir would take that fight. I mean, if Wladimir was willing to fight the likes of Jean Marc Mormeck, Mariusz Wach and Francesco Pianeta, he’ll fight Fury because he fits in with them so well in terms of talent and his limitations.
Fury and Haye will each be getting 5 million pounds for this fight, which is an unheard amount of loot for two non-world champions. You don’t see that in any other country. It’s weird. This fight wouldn’t be a pay per view worthy fight in the U.S or Canada.
I think a few fans might show up to see it life and the ratings would be decent with the right marketing if they televised it, but no way would this fight sell big numbers. Fury kind of blew it against former IBF cruiserweight Steve Cunningham in his U.S debut, and Haye already was exposed in his loss to IBF/IBO/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2011.
