Froch: I’m getting wound up by Groves’ arrogance

froch922By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) doesn’t seem to like the idea that his opponent George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) for later this year believes he’s got the talent needed to beat him. This bothers Froch and he sees it as arrogance instead of self-belief and confidence coming from Groves.

Froch said to Talk Sport “I’m getting a little bit wound up by the arrogance and the disrespect that they’re showing for a true champion. So he wants to be very careful what he wishes for…he’s a massive underdog, and nobody really own trainer ‘Too smooth’ Booth is giving him a big chance…he’s stepping right in with the best of the best.”

Did Froch call himself the “best of the best?” Oh man, I think Froch is starting to lose it now. How in the world is Froch the best of the best when he got spanked by Andre Ward, beaten by a prime Mikkel Kessler, almost beaten by Jermain Taylor, and has that controversial decision over Andre Dirrell still on his resume. I don’t know about you but I don’t see that as being the best of the best. I see that as middle of the road.

I see Froch as just a belt holder right now keeping the IBF/WBA titles warm until they get snatched off of him, and yeah, I think Groves is more than good enough to rip the titles off of Froch forcefully when they face each other. Groves might be a flawed fighter, but he does appear to be a level above Froch in the talent department.

I believe Groves can doing everything that Froch can do in the ring but he does a better job of it. He’s faster with his hands, he moves better, he’s got better defense and I rate his power as being better than Froch. The only thing I don’t rate Groves as being better than Froch is with his chin. I saw Groves get stunned by Glen Johnson in a fight that he was dominating. Froch has been hurt a number of times as well, but I still think his chin is definitely better than Groves.

Froch needs to realize that guys like Groves aren’t being arrogant when they assume they can beat him. It’s not arrogance. Groves sees what I see in Froch in that he’s a vulnerable fighter who is coming off a less than impressive performance against Kessler last May.

Groves is like the young lion. He’s spotted a weakened prey that is starting to show signs of aging, and he wants to run it down and tear it apart. It’s just part of the sport. If Groves didn’t think he could win he wouldn’t be so eager to take the fight. He knows he can win, he’s Froch showing signs of age, and now he want beat him to take his straps. That’s not arrogance. That’s called having your eyes open.
