Erik Morales thinks Canelo can beat Mayweather

Morales also thinks Mayweather’s age could be a factor in this fight, because Morales thinks he’s seen Mayweather coming close to getting beaten by Shane Mosley in the not too distant past.

Morales said to Juareznewstv “Canelo is physically larger due to his youth and he’s unbeaten…I think the age difference could hurt Floyd. Lately we have seen him almost falls to rivals Mosley and [Jose Luis] Castillo.

Canelo isn’t stronger because he’s younger than Mayweather. That doesn’t make sense at all. There are plenty of older fighters that are plenty strong. The difference here is that Canelo weighs 170+ pounds and he’s still fighting at junior middleweight rather than moving up to middleweight to fight guys his own size like WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

If Golovkin was fighting at junior middleweight against welterweights the way that Canelo is, Golovkin would be stronger than welterweights he’s facing too, but then against Golovkin weighs around 170 when he fights at middleweight and he’s not welterweights like Canelo is. Golovkin is fighting guys at his own weight. He’s not melting down 16 pounds to fight at a weight class well below him at junior middleweight.

I don’t see Mayweather’s age as having anything to do with the outcome of this fight. If he loses the fight it’ll be because he’s fighting a guy that arguably should be fighting at middleweight or least facing guys at junior middleweight instead of fighting welterweights like Mayweather.

Canelo’s stamina issues will make it tough for him to try and beat Mayweather because Canelo is pretty much just a 6 round fighter and he slows way down after the midpoint of his fights.
