Chisora V Scott KO: For the truth, time it yourself

By Boxing Muse: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN Dan Goosen the promoter of heavyweight contender Malik Scott has conducted an official inquest with British boxing board of control in order to review ‘Del-Boy’ Chisora’s ‘controversial’ knockout of then unbeaten Malik Scott on Saturday in London.

Goosen is attempting to have the sixth-round knockout defeat overturned to stand as a no-contest on his heavyweight’s previously perfect record.

Before the count occurred, the Philadelphian was out-boxing Chisora in a competitive fight when Chisora sent Scott to a knee with a scooping overhand right hand nearing the end of the sixth round.

The controversy is that referee Phil Edwards counted out Malik at 9, when in all honestly Scott looked prepared and ready to resume action. This matter has caused varying opinions within boxing.

One alarming view was that of internet based reporter Elie Seckbach, in which during a video with Brandon Rios and trainer Robert Garcia, the esnews.com reporter described the Chisora-Scott situation, using the following statement.

Sechbach said “He [Scott] took a knee and the ref counted to ten quicker than you can count one, two, three”

Implying that the referee was counting quickly and that Scott had been unfairly ruled out of the bout. What an appalling opinion from a ‘respected’ and well known reporter.

The controversial matter can be judged by you! Re-watch the Chisora-Scott fight on YouTube and use a stopwatch or stopwatch application on your phone and time as soon Scott’s knee hits the canvas. A referee’s errors can and should be taken into consideration but there is one thing that cannot be disputed and that is the time in seconds between when a boxer is down and when he rises. Judge for yourself, after all the fans are the majority.
