Chisora: I saw fear in Malik Scott’s eyes during stare down

scott40By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (16-4, 10 KO’s) thinks he saw fear in the eyes of unbeaten American Malik Scott (35-0-1, 12 KO’s) in their stare down today at the North London Gym. The two fighters met after Scott had missed a press conference on Monday due to him reportedly not knowing about it. Chisora and Scott will be facing each other this Saturday night in a fight at the Wembley Arena, Wembley, in London, United Kingdom.

This is a must win for both guys for different reasons. Chisora has been getting beaten left and right for the past couple of years and now has 4 losses in his last 6 fights. He needs a win just to be considered a gate keeper. Scott needs a victory to move up the world rankings from the #13 IBF, #15 WBA to get in position for a title shot.

Chisora said this about Scott as quoted by the Telegraph, “I’m happy now that I’ve looked into his eyes and I see that the boy is scared…He even had to be forced to take off his sunglasses as we went face-to-face…I’m going to do a real job on this boy and pack him off to America, defeated.”

It looks like Chisora thinks he’s got the win in the bag after a mere stare down. That’s pretty sad, but I can understand how he needs something to grasp onto to try and bolster his confidence. I mean, with as many losses as Chisora has had as of late, it’s got to be hard to have any confidence going into this fight. Scott has the size, speed and talent advantage over Chisora.

Scott showed in his recent fight against Vyacheslav Glazkov how good he is, as he dominated Glazkov in fighting to a controversial 10 round draw against one of the heavyweight division’s best heavyweights. I thought the scoring for that fight was poor, because I had Scott winning by at least 4 rounds. He looked sensational in that fight. I couldn’t see Chisora beating Glazkov, no way.

I think Scott is going to give Chisora royal boxing lesson on Saturday night and pretty much shut the door for the final time on any hopes that he might have of trying to creep back into world title contention. A one-sided loss to Scott should finish Chisora off because there would be no coming back from a 5th defeat in his last 7 fights.
