frampton3By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super bantamweight contender Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) says he has an ear injury that will prevent him from fighting 35-year-old super flyweight Everth Briceno (35-8-2, 26 KO’s) this Saturday night on the Dereck Chisora vs. Malik Scott card at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Frampton still wanted the fight to go ahead despite the ear injury, but the British Boxing Board of Control said no to that idea.

Frampton said on his twitter, “I’m upset to have to announce that I have been ruled out of my fight on Saturday by the BBBofC. An old ear injury mildly reoccurred in a spar. A specialist initially informed me I was fit to box. Today the BBBofC riled me out. I’m so sorry especially to the people who were coming to support me. It’s been an amazing camp and I’m gutted that I won’t able to showcase my improvements.”

Well, look at this way at least now Frampton can step up and next time he fights he can target an actual super bantamweight contender instead of someone two divisions smaller than him and 9 years older than him in Briceno. I mean, how about fighting someone from the super bantamweight division instead of combing the super flyweight division for opposition.

Briceno is a super flyweight, not a super bantamweight. What in the heck was Frampton doing fighting a super flyweight? You don’t see the top fighters in the 122 lb. division looking to fight opponents from the super flyweight division, do you?

Frampton needs step it up big time and get it over with and face Scott Quigg, Leo Santa Cruz or Guillermo Rigondeaux. Beating around the bushes and wasting time in his career fighting super flyweights isn’t going to help Frampton any. There was nothing he could have learned from that fight to beat one of those guys. He needs to get it over with and face one of them, take his loss and rebuild from there.
