Canelo speaks(Photo: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Thomas Hull: This fight, like many of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fights, is being touted as the fight where the P4P #1 Mayweather will lose his crown. It has swayed many of the boxing media and fans, many of whom dislike Floyd, that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. However, the hype couldn’t be further away from the reality. The truth is, to the eye of the true boxing fan, Canelo Alvarez does not stand a chance against the wizard that is Floyd Mayweather. He has not a single, noticeable attribute that could give Floyd a problem.

The Canelo fans and the media are under the illusion that his size will play a factor in the fight, they are absolutely right that it will – but to Floyd’s advantage. Floyd will take advantage of Canelo’s size by simply running around him and not being in harm’s way. Then, eventually when Canelo does reach him, his awfully slow punches will be blocked and countered by Floyd’s unbreakable defence.

Oscar De La Hoya seems to be under the false pretense that “Canelo is no Guerrero”, however, didn’t he make similar statements when Guerrero fought Mayweather, that “he is no Cotto”. And then previous to that when Victor Ortiz fought Floyd. Oscar may still be bitter of the fact, that ever since Floyd clinically out boxed him in his fight – that he is now looking for a small ounce of assurance that every fighter Floyd gets into the ring with – he will lose. Sadly for him, that is false. The only type of fighter’s that can give Mayweather problems are those with speed, movement, long reach, high fitness levels and effective straight punches. Realistically, the only fighters that come to mind with the aforementioned attributes are – Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao.

Even though Manny Pacquiao seems to be “finished”, he would still give Floyd problems in the ring. He has speed, power, agility etc. Amir Khan also has those skills, even though many people believe Amir Khan would get knocked out in that fight, he has a significantly better chance to win than someone slow like Canelo Alvarez. Whether you love him or hate him, Amir Khan has not really ducked anyone and would pose a serious threat to Mayweather.

This analysis was backed up by Roy Jones Jr, who was one of the fastest boxers of his era, if not ever. Khan has probably the fastest hands in the world and his fitness level is simply immense. There is not a single fight, where it appeared that he seemed to be running out of gas. This would play crucial with someone like Floyd, as punching his arms and elbows have made many of his opponents tired, so someone like Khan with his Speed, movement, reach, stamina etc would be a good opponent for Floyd Mayweather. Anyone else will simply not stand a chance.
