Canelo’s trainer Chepo Reynoso is reportedly saying that Canelo has started his training camp at Big Bear at 165 lbs, according to Boxing Roundup.

However, this doesn’t mean that Canelo will drop below 165, because he looked to be solid muscle during the recent 11 city press tour with Mayweather Jr. How is Canelo going to whittle off all that super middleweight muscle when he doesn’t have fat stores on his body.

It’s quite possible that Canelo could wind up gaining muscle weight in the next two months of training through the hard work of training camp. We could see Canelo gain another 5 pounds of muscle in 2 months because he doesn’t have any fat to lose.

When you’re already as lean as you can be like Canelo is, the only thing you can do is put on muscle if you eat enough and if he doesn’t run 10 miles per day. I can’t see Canelo going on long 10 miles runs. If anything, he’ll be running 3 miles a day at Big Bear and that’s going to tear down any muscle on his super middleweight frame.

Canelo is going to have to take off some water weight in order to get down to the 152 lb. catch-weight in order to avoid a weight penalty. But that’s what I see Canelo doing. He’s not going to use the training camp to trim down muscle weight. That’s crazy. He’s not one of those fighters that uses training camp as a fat farm.

Canelo’s already as lean as he can be with muscle. That’s why it doesn’t matter that Reynoso is saying that Canelo is at 165, because he’s likely going to stay at that weight or gain weight and end up at 170+ again like his last fight.
