Brook not happy that Khan’s getting Devon Alexander title fight instead of him

brook7777By Scott Gilfoid: #1 IBF, Kell Brook (30-0, 20 KO’s) may have a much higher ranking than fellow Brit Amir Khan in the IBF rankings at 147, but Khan is still poised to get a title shot against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander on December 7th instead of Brook.

This doesn’t make Brook happy because he feels like he should be the one facing Alexander, not Khan. Brook had his chance to fight Alexander earlier this year, but after two injuries by Brook during training, the fight was called off. Alexander couldn’t wait around forever for Brook to stay healthy enough to fight, so he moved on to a fight against Lee Purdy instead.

Brook said to the Dailystar “He [Khan] has never boxed at welterweight, has been knocked out however many times in his career and comes along and gets the fight.”

What is Brook complaining about? He had his chance and he kept getting injured, so Alexander had to move on. Brook will get his chance at fighting for the IBF title in the near future. It might not be against Khan, though, because if by chance he does beat Alexander in December, Khan will then be facing WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in early 2014 and Khan is obviously will lose that fight. ‘

It’s possible that it might play out to Brook’s favor if Mayweather chooses to use one of his remaining fights by facing him. I mean, I wouldn’t bet on it happening, but it’s a possibility. But there is really no chance of Brook getting a fight against Khan, because like I said, if Khan beats Alexander, he’ll then be fighting Mayweather in his next fight and there is no way that Khan beats Mayweather.

I think the most likely scenario will be Mayweather picking up the IBF strap from Khan in an easy win, and then Mayweather holding onto the title for a little while without defending it against Brook.

Eventually, Mayweather will give up the IBF title rather than burning up one of his last 3 fights on his Showtime contract fighting Brook, a fighter that few boxing fans in the U.S has ever heard of.

Mayweather can’t afford to fight Brook because U.S boxing fans wouldn’t purchase that fight in high numbers because Brook is still an unknown in the U.S. As such, I think Brook is going to be waiting around for a long, long time before he finally gets a shot at the IBF title.
