Brandon Rios: They think I’m a punching bag; I’m going to win

pac90By Chris Williams: Former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s) sounded like he had a little bit of a chip on his shoulder in the press conference with Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) today in Macao, China to hype their November 23rd fight at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

The 27-year-old Rios promised that he’ll come out on top in this fight and show his doubters that they were wrong.

Rios said “I’ll be ready, 100 percent health. I’m going to show the world and everybody that talks bad about me. They say I’m a punching bag. They’re going to find something out definitely. They’re going to see on November 24th. Brandon Rios is going to win.”

Having a chip on his shoulder may help Rios in this fight because he’s going to need something extra to get him up to the next level and fight better than he has before in order to beat Pacquiao.
Rios looked a little fleshy while standing next to Pacquiao. He’s going to have to pare off that weight.

There’s still a lot of time before the fight thankfully, but Rios is going to need to knock off at least 10 pounds of fat and likely another 10 pounds of water weight to get down to 147. Right now, he looks like he’s weighing near 170. Rios towered over Pacquiao during their stare down and he looked a lot heavier as well.

Pacquiao seems fit, because he’s been playing 6 hours of basketball per day. He’s probably near fighting shape already.

It might not matter how fit Pacquiao is because if he gets hit with a big shot from Rios, he might go down for the count or get knocked cold again. The way Pacquiao was knocked out in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, you can’t know for sure what’s going to happen with the Filipino. He could topple over with the first big head shot Rios nails him with in this fight.
