Bellew: I’ll beat Adonis Stevenson in style; he won’t get near me

bellew2By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Tony Bellew’s close 12 round decision win over Isaac Chilemba last May seems to have gone to his head, because Bellew is now talking nonsense about how he’s going to easily beat the talented WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18 KO’s) if and when the two fighters meet up on November 30th in Montreal, Canada.

It’s still not a dead certainty that it’ll be Stevenson that Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be facing on that date, because it could be former IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud if he gets past Stevenson in their fight in September. But Bellew will be facing one of those two, and either one is going to be a nightmare for the Liverpool fighter.

Bellew said to RingTV “Adonis Stevenson will feel something he has never felt before when I hit him. This guy is just a midget and he will struggle to get anywhere near me…It’s going to take a few rounds but at the end of the day I’ll win that fight in style.”

See what I mean? Bellew’s unimpressive clinch-filled win over Chilemba has Bellew acting like he can walk on water now. Some fighters are better off when they have zero confidence because once they get an insignificant win, it goes to their head and gets them thinking grand thoughts.

Let me be the breath of fresh air for Bellew. Look, you don’t have a chance against Stevenson, not one. Heck, you don’t even have a chance against Cloud. Both of these talents are too good for you. Just go back and fight Chilemba again, but this time without god awful clinching. I wish Jay Nady was working their 2nd fight because I think he would have had a field day taking points off for all that clinching Bellew was doing.

As far as the height thing goes, Bellew, 6’2 ½”, is shorter than the 5’11” Stevenson’s last opponent Chad Dawson, and we saw what Stevenson did to him in starching him in one round last June. Stevenson can land with major power no matter where he’s at. He can be in close in a clinch and still land with monstrous power. Bellew would have nowhere to hide against Stevenson.
