Andre Berto lashes out at the media, says he’ll be back

berto000By Allan Fox: It doesn’t look like former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-3, 22 KO’s) has been discouraged by his latest defeat, a 12th round stoppage loss to Jesus Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s) from last Saturday night. Berto is vowing to come back from the defeat and continue to find success.

It’s not going to be easy for Berto to turns things around with his career unfortunately. He’s 29-years-old now, and he’s starting to suffer injuries when he fights. Besides that, he’s not fighting with the same energy that he did 5 years ago when he arguably was at his best.

Berto commented on his social media site “This f***** media is trying to crucify me. smh. Everytime I step in that squared circle it’s for everbody sitting in those seats man. Tore my shoulder out in the 3rd and still fought me a** off with one arm. smh. I don’t give a damn anymore man. We’ll be back and will succeed…all the true warriors bite down and show up always.”

Berto was neck and neck with Soto Karass going into the 12th round, and had he fought like he did in the previous round, Berto would have pulled out the win. One judge had Berto up 105-103, and the other two had the fight 105-103 for Soto Karass and 114-114. All Berto had to do in order to get the win was fight a disciplined 12th round, and he would have had the win.

Berto is going to need to go back to the basics if he wants to turn his career around. He needs to work on his conditioning and defense, because those are his biggest problem areas. However, he’s got a lot of different flaws in his game that he’s going to need to work on to come back from this loss.

He’s still using the shoulder roll defense, and it’s not working well. Berto should forget about that defensive strategy and focus more on keeping his hands high to block more shots. He was getting hit with way too many head shots by Soto Karass, and there wasn’t much improvement from his last defeat against Robert Guerrero.
