Adrien Broner takes a shot at Matthysse and Maidana

broner988221By Dan Ambrose: WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner was in the mood to kick sand in the faces of Argentinian fighters Lucas Matthysse and Marcos Maidana earlier today by pointing out how both of them have been beaten in the past, and saying that he’ll take care of one of them [Maidana], while WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia takes care of the other one in his fight with Matthysse on September 14th on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card.

Speaking on his social media site, Broner said:

“@DannySwift a bro f*** that dude up then I’m go handle the other Argentine!!! Mfs don’t know s**t bout boxing y’all praising these two Argentines but they both been beat plenty of times!!!! F*** out of here !!!!”

This would be good if Broner is interested in fighting Garcia in the future if he gets past Matthysse. Broner vs. Garcia would be an excellent fight. But if Broner is just giving his friend Garcia a pep talk without any interest in fighting him, then it’s not so great.

Broner has already said he’d never face his good friend Floyd Mayweather Jr., who he sees as a mentor figure in his career. But if you add Danny Garcia as another fighter off limits for Broner that would have many boxing fans actively rooting for Matthysse to beat Garcia so that we could potentially have a fight between Broner and Matthysse in the future.

There’s no question that Garcia has his hands full with Matthysse. Broner can give Garcia all the encouragement that he wants, but it’s still not going to change the fact that Matthysse is going to be a big problem for Garcia in this fight. This isn’t Amir Khan or Erik Morales that Garcia is fighting on September 14th.

Matthysse may have lost to Devon Alexander and Zab Judah by controversial decisions in the past, but he’s a much different fighter now that he’s older, wiser and is really sitting down on his punches. Matthysse doesn’t trust judges anymore after losing to Alexander and Judah, and he’s not going to let Garcia make it to the finish line on September 14th. Either Garcia knocks him out or he’s going to knock Garcia out. That’s the reality of the situation for this fight.
