Yorgey defeats Kennedy
Bridgeport, PA´s Harry Joe Yorgey captured the vacant World Boxing Federation North American Middleweight title on Saturday night, June 15, continuing his climb back to the world class level he competed at a few years ago.
Fighting only a few miles from his hometown, Yorgey won a close majority decision over old foe Julius Kennedy from Windsor Mill, MD at the Valley Forge Casino Resort in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
This was a rematch of their original toe-to-toe war this past March, where Yorgey was awarded a disputed split decision, and the sequel turned out to also be a great fight between boxers who would probably always give each other fits.
As in their first fight, Yorgey and Kennedy relentlessly went at each other banging to the body and head, and after ten fantastic rounds of boxing it was anybody’s guess who would be crowned champion.
In several rounds it was hard to separate the two, and while one judge had them all even at 95-95 the decision was tipped in the favor of Yorgey when the remaining two judges scored it 96-94.
The new WBF North American Middleweight Champion improved his professional record to 27-2-1 (12), while Julius Kennedy falls to a very deceiving 7-6-1 (3).
The fight was promoted by Marchal Kauffman’s Kings Boxing Promotions.
