proksa333By Allan Fox: Former WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio “Latin Snake” Mora (23-3-2, 7 KO’s) will be taking a dangerous fight this month against 28-year-old former EBU middleweight champion Grzegorz Proksa (29-2, 21 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Veteran’s Coliseum in Jacksonville, Florida. Mora has lost two out of his last three fights, both to Brian Vera. Mora badly needs a win over Proksa to try and get back into the thick of things in the middleweight division because he’s been out of the picture for a long time.

Proksa was beaten last September by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin by a 5th round TKO. Proksa was able to land some hard shots on Golovkin, but he couldn’t take his own big punches in return and ended up getting dropped three times in the fight before it was halted in the 5th round. Proksa rebounded from that loss to defeat Robert Szekeres by a 6 round decision last February.

Proksa is going to be a tough opponent for Mora due to his southpaw stance and his excellent power. Mora is hard to hit but Proksa is able to generate big power from almost any punching angle he throws from. Mora doesn’t have the same kind of power to give Proksa problems and he’s going to have to figure out a way to limit some of the big power shots coming his way from the Polish fighter.

Mora, 32, briefly held the WBC 154 lb. title back in June of 2008 when he pulled off a big upset in defeating an out of shape Vernon Forrest by a 12 round majority decision. Forrest turned around and avenged his defeat three months in beating Mora by a 12 round unanimous decision in September, 2008. Mora hasn’t been all that active in the past four years in fighting only five times. That’s not exactly what you’d like to see from a non-champion in trying to keep busy with his career.
