Manuel Charr wants Deontay Wilder after Orlov bout

charr444222By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (23-1, 13 KO’s) already knows who he wants to fight after he dispatched 330 lb. journeyman Evegeny Orlov (13-12-1, 9 KO’s) on June 15th in Germany.

Charr wants to fight unbeaten American Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) and he says he’s willing to come to the United States to fight the 6’7” Deontay if he can’t travel to Europe to take the fight.

Charr was supposed to be fighting former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye next. However, Haye injured his left hand and can’t take the fight. Supposedly the Haye-Charr fight was supposed to be postponed but Charr is talking as if he figures that Haye will be taking another fight, likely Tyson Fury instead of facing him. This is why Charr is now calling out the 27-year-old Deontay and is willing to jump through hoops to make the fight happen.

Charr said this on his twitter to Deontay: “I found the next opponent of @BronzeBomber if he doesn’t want to fight me. @BronzeBomber @ The Gym thinking who shall be the next opponent. What are you waitin for. I am here want to fight. What happens if Wilder finally fight someone who punches hard back? Wilder never had an opponent who comes to fight and has a good chin. He is only hype. As far as I know he fights in USA in July. I want him there next but I doubt that he accepts the challenge.”

When asked why he isn’t still interested in fighting David Haye, Charr said “If you read the news then you know why.” In other words, Charr is aware that Haye will likely fight Fury next instead of him.

That’s actually a smart move by Haye because it gives him an easy, easy fight where he can make a lot more money than he would if he fought Charr. Additionally, Fury is ranked a lot higher than Charr is, so Haye is better off fighting him next rather than Charr. Haye will make more money and get a bigger boost in the rankings from beating the stuffing out of Fury.

I think Charr would have no chance against a big puncher like Deontay. The German based fighter is just too slow and easy to hit. I can’t see Charr surviving the first salvo of power shots from Deontay. Charr would likely get stunned by one of Deontay’s big right hand bombs and then quickly smashed to smithereens with some follow up shots.

Would Golden Boy make a fight between Deontay and Charr? I think they might. The only problem would be trying to negotiate the fight. Charr might want too much cash and I doubt there would be a lot of money for this fight because Deontay hasn’t reached star level yet in the U.S.
