Haye: Fighting Tyson Fury is free money

haye125By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) is amused that contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) has been mentioning his name recently about wanting to fight him next.

Haye says he doesn’t know if the 6’9” Fury is on the level or not but he’d like to fight him because he sees it as easy, easy money. No doubt, Haye saw how truly awful Fury looked in his last fight against Steve Cunningham and wants to get a piece of the Fury action to be the first one to knock him out cold before someone else does it.

Haye said to I Film London “Tyson Fury mentioned he wants to fight David Price, he said he wants to fight Klitschko, he said he wants to fight [Kubrat] Pulev, now he says he wants to fight me. Whether that happens or not; I’d like to happen but I don’t know. He says he wants to fight but then he goes in another direction. I see it as free money.”

Yes, it would be free money for Haye. It would be one of those fights where Haye connects with a big right hand and Fury hits the deck in a heap. It would be funny as heck to watch and I’m REALLY hoping Fury actually takes the fight because at this point I don’t believe anything he says when he starts talking about how he’s going to fight someone or how he can beat a particular fighter.

Fury backed away from fights against David Price, Deontay Wilder and Kubrat Pulev when they were offered to him. Will Fury do that with Haye? In this case I think Fury might actually take this fight because the cash is too good for him to turn down. Fury can get a big payday in getting whipped by Haye.

Steve Bunce estimates that Fury will make more money in facing Haye then he would against one of the Klitschko brothers as their mandatory challenger and I wouldn’t doubt that. So if Fury is going to get beaten then he might as well get the most money he can.

Afterwards he can start over and trying to work his way to a title shot. It might set Fury back a year or two in getting a world title shot after Haye knocks him out but he’ll eventually get a title shot if his promoter keeps matching him against guys that he can beat like Martin Rogan and Vinny Maddalone.
