710(Photo credit Team Golovkin) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) will have a nice little stay busy fight next Saturday night, June 29th against contender Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) on HBO at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Some boxing fans see this as a competitive fight, but I don’t see it that way. I’ve seen enough of Macklin to know that he’s going to do no better against Golovkin that Nobuhiro Ishida did.

Golovkin knocked Ishida out in 3rd rounds last March, and I see Macklin lasting about the same amount of time unless he stinks up the joint and runs for his life the way that Gabriel Rosado did last year in January.

In the case of Rosado, he might as well have gotten it over with and just gone after Golovkin to go out in a blaze of glory because all he did was prolong the inevitable by letting taking his beating slowly.

Macklin is going to have problems handling Golovkin’s power. He’s going to have to run or figure out some kind of way to avoid getting hit by ducking a whole lot because Golovkin will be he head hunting in this fight and Macklin will be there to be hit unless he runs or sticks his head out of reach of Golovkin’s punches.

Also on the card will be super middleweight contenders Thomas Oosthuizen and Brandon Gonzales facing each other in a pick-em fight. Hard to say who wins this one because both are so good and yet so flawed at the same time, especially on defense. Those guys are so easy to hit.

Junior middleweight contender Willie Nelson will be facing Luciano Leonel Cuello in what should be an easy fight for Nelson. This guy is very good and he’s got a real future at 154 if he can keep his feet on the ground and stop getting knocked down so much.
