Was Mayweather pressured to fight Canelo?

floyd7By Meyer Lynk: Everyone that’s deep in the boxing scene knows if Floyd Mayweather Jr. had it his way – He would never fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez 42-0-1-30. Floyd’s method of operation works like this: Choose the easiest route that pays the most. Every hardcore boxing fan knows this.

Due the low PPV numbers for Mayweather’s previous fight against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, (not the PPV numbers given to the public to save face and put a good light on the event, which all promoters do, but the real PPV numbers that are collected and was not given to the public and only to the board members).

Yes, Floyd made a cool $30 million dollars upfront in his last fight against “The Ghost” however Showtime lost money and idiot fans who do not know how business works will say “Who cares if Showtime lost money, Floyd made his and thats all that matters.” What these idiots do not understand is that Showtime/CBS did not write Floyd a check of $250 million up front. He would have to finish his fight deal to receive the full $250 million. Showtime likely expects to profit after each Floyd Mayweather PPV so the network can make money. If Floyd’s PPV numbers continue to plummet and Showtime doesn’t make any money while they are paying Floyd $30 million upfront – It might make them cancel the $250 million dollar 6 fight deal.

Was Floyd pressured by Showtime? This is great for the fans because we get to see the fights that we want. Great for Floyd too because now people can’t say that hes ducking hard opposition. Great for Showtime as well because this PPV will definitely so serious numbers that will make the network huge profits.

Now with all that being said, my prediction is the fight can go either way 50/50. Floyd beats Canelo easily if he just hits and move. If Floyd fights Canelo the same way Floyd fought Cotto we will see Floyd take his first loss. You also have to remember, no one is unbeatable and Floyd has been caught before. Mosley, Judah, and Hatton were able to catch him. If Canelo catches, will it be any different? It maybe a lot different seeing how Canelo is the biggest guy with the hardest punch Floyd has ever faced.
