DeGale stops Bozic, wants Froch next

By Scott Gilfoid: In a predictable result, WBC Silver super middleweight champion James DeGale (16-1, 11 KO’s) stopped his over-matched, 2nd tier opponent Stjepan Bozic (26-7, 17 Ko’s) in a 4th round TKO on Saturday night at the Glow, Bluewater, Greenhithe, Kent, United Kingdom. The fight was halted after the 4th round ended after Bozic couldn’t come out for the 5th.

Bozic’s left eye was swelled up and he looked terrible. I’m not surprised he didn’t come out for the 5th because he was a punching bag for DeGale for the four rounds of the fight.

My overall impression of DeGale in this fight was he looked rather poor. He slapped with his punches, he was easy to hit, he lacked power, he kept retreating to the ropes and getting nailed while trying to fight off of them. Bozic was a fighter that DeGale should have been able to stop in 2 rounds like Arthur Abraham did, but instead of he had to slap his way to a stoppage and it was so ugly to watch.

After the fight, DeGale said “Let’s [Carl Froch] do it. I’m too much for Froch. He don’t want to fight me.”

DeGale’s promoter Mick Hennessy spoke in more realistic terms, saying that he’d like to match DeGale up against the winner of the Marco Antonio Periban vs. Sakio Bika fight. That’s a more doable fight against the winner of that fight. However, I think Bika would be too much for DeGale if that fight happens.
