Canelo’s brother Ricardo sees fear in Mayweather’s face

By Dan Ambrose: Ricardo Alvarez, the brother of WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, is saying he spotted fear in the face of Floyd Mayweather Jr. when the two fighters had a face to face stare down during Showtime’s video they filmed in Los Angeles, California this week.

Ricardo said this as quoted by TV Noticias “You see the faces and Mayweather Jr. has fear in his face.”

I saw the photos of the stare down and I couldn’t spot any fear on Mayweather’s face. The only thing I noticed was that Canelo looked to be at least 20-25 pounds heavier and a good inch taller than Mayweather.

Canelo looked like a small light heavyweight. He looked bigger than a super middleweight, but not a big light heavyweight. In the photos, Canelo looks identical in size as WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson. That’s only thing I noticed in looking at the two fighters. Canelo looks much heavier, like a fighter that shouldn’t be fighting welterweights.

If there was any fear Mayweather’s eyes it might be because he’s seeing a fighter that so much heavier than him. I don’t think Mayweather cares if Canelo has a 20-25 pound weight advantage. I wonder what Canelo would be thinking if he were staring at cruiserweight Guillermo Jones in a stare down.

Jones is about 20-25 pounds heavier than Canelo. It would be awfully tough on Canelo to fight someone with a 20+ lb. weight advantage.

I’m just wondering how much longer Canelo will be able to squeeze into the junior middleweight division without seriously draining himself. At some point Canelo’s not going to be able to melt down so much to fight against the smaller welterweights like the ones he’s facing while holding the WBC junior middleweight title. I just hope that when Canelo does move up to middleweight, Golden Boy doesn’t keep matching him with welterweights.
