By Peter Wells (twitter @boxingbrains): For my 1st episode of ‘BoxingBrains Boxing News’ I will be looking back at Saturday nights action, as Adrien Broner defeated Paulie Malignaggi by a controversial Split decision. In a fight that left us with more questions than answers I will be weighing up exactly what we can draw from this latest episode in the controversial career of Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner. But not all out attention should be aimed at Adrien Broner, as I will also look at how Paulie Malignaggi proved himself to still be a legitimate top 10 fighter in the Welterweight division, even if he has lost his WBA title.
To add to this, I will also be previewing all this weekends best action. On Friday night, Denton Vassell defends his Commonwealth Welterweight title, while challenging Frankie Gavin for his British Welterweight crown. In a huge domestic tear-up I’ll be looking ahead at the keys to victory for both fighters. The very next day there will be yet another all British affair, as Anthony Crolla takes on Gavin Rees in a Lightweight cracker. And finally I will be previewing Matthew Macklin’s latest title challenge as he travels to the United States of America to face hard-hitting Gennady Golovkin in a WBA Middleweight match-up. Can Macklin make this third time lucky as he provides ‘Triple G’ with his toughest test to date ?
To finish off this weeks ‘BoxingBrains Boxing News’ episode I will be summing up some of this weeks big news, including, the announcement of Nathan Cleverly vs Sergey Kovalev, Ricky Burns vs Raymundo Beltran. Also the speculation over who Danny Garcia will be fighting next as a Zab Judah rematch is being weighed up, while boxing fans are shouting for Danny Garcia vs Lucas Matthysse. So are Golden Boy Promotions really giving boxing fans the fights they want to see?
