What if?

By Onaps: The Heavyweight title fight tomorrow makes me ponder, only imagine how wonderful a Word would be if our barren landscape of American heavyweight contenders went from Arreola, Jennings, Wilder, who, mind you, are all good fighters with boxing ability. To LeBron James, Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Ron Artest, Steven Jackson, ect…. Now, remember, in this scenario, all of these athletes took up boxing instead of their chosen Sport.

The crop of American heavyweights are not great athletes. Nor are the majority of ALL heavyweights. Truthfully, the only guy in the top 20 that I can invision even making a pro Sport roster, let alone excelling, May be David Haye. Imagine that, only One really gifted athlete in the divisions upper tiers. Whoooh.

You would hope to think that some diamond in the rough, young, ultra athlete, with size and coordination , hopefully 10, would see the paycheck that a small, never deemed an exciting fighter, like Floyd “Money” Mayweather is going to Cash on Monday, and think to themselves, I’m going to give this boxing thing a shot.

I would be naive to believe that just because you are a great athlete, you would he the next great heavyweight champion. Boxing is so much more than that. It is heart , determination, dedication, balance, a chin, and the will to not give up when you feel like you body is. I just imagine the day when a few athletic heavyweights encompass these traits to accompany their ultra Athletic gifts, and gives us who love this Sport, a real heavyweight division.
