By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super middleweight Anthony Dirrell (24-0, 21 KO’s) made weight on Thursday night for his comeback fight against the hard hitting Don Mouton (12-6-1, 10 KO’s) in their scheduled 8-round bout on Friday night at the Cosmopolitan Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dirrell weighed in at 172.5 lbs, while Mouton came in at 167 lbs. for their light heavyweight fight. Dirrell is easing his way back into the super middleweight division after missing all of 2012 after getting injured in a motorcycle. Dirrell broke a leg and his hand in the accident and needed a lot of time to rehab from the injury.

The Dirrell-Mouton will be the co-feature. The main event will be welterweights Antonio Orozco and Jose Reynosa battling it out. I’m not too interested in seeing that fight, but I imagine a lot of fans in Las Vegas might see that as an appealing fight. I don’t.

Dirrell should breeze though Mouton without any problem because he’s clearly one of the top 168 pound fighters in the division when he’s healthy.

Mouton, 34, is kind of the sacrificial lamb for Dirrell to slaughter, but it’s a needed lamb for Dirrell because he’s been out of action for so long. I mean, I can see Dirrell getting in there and beating pretty much everyone in the division apart from Andre Ward and possibly his brother Andre Dirrell, who Anthony would never fight, but you don’t want to rush a guy like Dirrell back into the thick of things before he’s gotten the rust out.

Mouton has lost his last two fights against Brandon Gonzales and Badou Jack by eight round decisions. Before that, Mouton had a nice little three-fight winning streak against some decent opposition.

Mouton has been in with some good fighters in his 7-year pro career in fights against Abel Perry, Maxim Vlasov, Walid Smichet and Curtis Stevens. He lost to all of those guys except for Smichet, who he beat by a 10 round unanimous decision in 2008.
