Three June knockouts to anticipate

golovkin322by Bob Smith: In scanning the boxing matches coming up next month, I will venture to make predictions of three KO victories. Will I be right? Only time will tell. For the (very recent) record, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez did better than I anticipated he would, though I had him losing a narrow decision; I also thought that Guerrero would have some more success in pressuring Floyd, though I did anticipate Floyd Mayweather Jr would win by unanimous decision.

The good news is that Gennady Golovkin should dismiss the highly talkative and disrespectful but very world class and skilled Matthew Macklin within roughly 8 rounds. I thought Macklin did very well against Sergio Martinez, but I don’t see him being able to cope effectively with the power and pressure tactics of Golovkin. I think that Martin Murray and his excellent defense would pose more problems for Golovkin though I think Golovkin would defeat Murray in a decision.

Also good news is that Mikey Garcia should be able to manage a late round KO against Juan Manuel Lopez. Mikey Garcia is an under appreciated if not underrated fighter, and ideally he would move on to the p4p list and an overrated Bradley would drop out of it if his performance is very strong.

On less positive news, I anticipate that Adrien Broner will defeat Malignaggi in convincing fashion. Let us hope that he behaves with more maturity after the victory, because in fact there are people considerably better than him at welterweight, and roughly his equal at lightweight (Mares a little better, De Leon about his equal). I do enjoy watching Broner fight, so I can say that I am a fan of his in spite of his antics, if he works on his defense and develops one of his own he will become even better. But even now he fights with crispness, poise, confidence, speed, power and grace. I say less positive of course while wishing him the best, but will be unable to stomach the hype or his verbiage after his convincing KO win.
