Robert Garcia sees Rios-Pacquiao being more exciting than Mayweather’s fights

rios7By Chris Williams: Robert Garcia, the trainer for title challenger Brandon Rios, thinks Rio’s fight with Manny Pacquiao on November 24th will potentially be more exciting than the fights that Floyd Mayweather Jr. typically has.

Rios and Pacquiao will be fighting in Macau, China on November 24th in move that will save Pacquiao a great deal of tax money from the pay per view money he gets from American boxing fans for his fight.

Garcia said to the Manila Standard “His [Mayweather] fights are not as exciting as the fights of Pacquiao or Rios and the people will enjoy their fight.”

Mayweather’s fights sometimes aren’t as exciting but he’s arguably got a lot more fans than both of them, so it’s kind of a meaningless thing Garcia is pointing out.

You can make an argument that Ruslan Provodnikov’s fights are more exciting than either Pacquiao or Rios, but that doesn’t mean he has a lot of fans following him. He’s clearly not a huge star with casual boxing fans.

It’s too bad Rios will likely never be as popular as Mayweather, but if it makes Garcia feel happy saying that Rios is a more exciting fighter than Mayweather then that’s good for him. Unfortunately, it doesn’t mean a lot for Rios in terms of dollars and sense.

It’s safe to say he’s not going to be pulling a $32 million payday against Manny Pacquiao on November 24th or his fight after that.

Instead of focusing on who’s more exciting than who, Garcia should be focusing on what really matters and that’s to find a way for Rios to win this fight so that he doesn’t end up losing his second consecutive fight and squandering the opportunity given to him.

After all, it’s unlikely he’ll be given a rematch if he loses the fight, and even if he wins, he probably won’t get a second chance at fighting Pacquiao. There are already two other guys ahead of Rios in the line for Pacquiao to try and avenge his defeats from last year.
