Roach to train Chavez Jr. for Martin Murray fight on August 3rd

chavez91By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) will be back with his trainer Freddie Roach to get ready for his up and coming August 3rd fight against Britain’s Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KO’s) at the Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico.

Roach says he’s not going to put up with Chavez Jr. blowing off training sessions with him like he did the last time they worked together in getting ready for the Sergio Martinez fight last September. Chavez Jr. frequently missed training sessions and instead worked out at home.

Roach said to RingTV “I said [to Chavez Jr] I’ll train you for four weeks in my gym, and then the last two weeks, we’ll go to Mexico City, but the thing is that the first day that you miss, Julio, I can’t tolerate that. I’m going to send you home.”

One wonders if Roach will stick to his word and walk out of the training camp or if he’ll give in and train him like last time with Chavez Jr. showing up when he felt like it and blowing off training sessions like before.

If Roach is going to stand firm with Chavez Jr. and send him back home to Mexico after he skips his first training session for the camp then I can’t see this camp lasting longer than a couple of weeks at the most. Chavez Jr. will skip a session and then that’ll be it.

Chavez Jr. probably doesn’t even need Roach for this fight because Martin Murray is made to order for him. This is the most perfect opponent Chavez Jr. could have because Murray just holds up his guard and defends his head. He leaves open his body all the time and he doesn’t move well around the ring. Chavez Jr. can walk him down and punish him to the body and head. This is going to be an easy fight for Chavez Jr. unless Murray puts on his track shoes and runs all night long.
