Niavity at 30: Is Robert Guerrero really THAT sure of himself?

03(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Samuel Roy Junior: In all honesty, I really don’t buy the fact that Robert Guerrero thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr wants there to be a rematch clause included in the contract for their upcoming bout this Saturday night at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. It’s as if he’s trying to convince himself. That’s right, its that simple.

Don’t get me wrong, Guerrero’s resume is nothing to be sniffed at, he’s a very accomplished boxer who’s worked his way to get to this point right. But lets look at the facts; Mayweather has, in somewhat most of the eyes of boxing enthusiasts and fans across the world, DOMINATED the sport for 17 years. He’s been considered and mentioned in the rankings of the top pound for pound fighters on the planet since the late 90’s.

Now I know the title of this article is about Guerrero, but you can’t ignore his opponents achievements. Yes, he’s older, yes, his last fight seemed to ‘show signs of slipping’, but people forget, it was only Mayweather’s 2nd fight at the light-middleweight class and he let a very experienced, in-shape Miguel Cotto fight at a weight HE was comfortable at. Mayweather beat someone who was naturally a lot larger than him on the night of the fight!

Guerrero’s had just TWO fights at welterweight, against what wouldn’t even class as top-tier competition, and he believes that Mayweather, who is 43-0, would be scrambling for a rematch clause in the fight contract. Preposterous.

Mayweather hasn’t ‘slipped’ as much as Guerrero leads himself to believe. He’s maybe lost about 5-10% of his PRIME capability, but that doesn’t mean Guerrero has as much of a chance as he thinks on the night. Props to him though, he’s hyped himself up well for the fight, but you can tell with comments like this he’s already losing in his head. God won’t save Guerrero come May 4th. We’ll all witness the masterclass that is Mayweather yet again, the hardest working boxer on the planet.
