Malignaggi: I’m going to dominate Broner; I don’t respect him

malign1By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) sees his fight next month against Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) on June 22nd as being one of the easiest fights of his career when they meet up at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi said to esnewsreporting.com “I do not respect Adrien Broner. After the fight, if he don’t take the ass whopping personally, I won’t either. Domination; I’m going to dominate the guy. People are going to be shocked.”

Broner said on his social media site: “I’m so ready for June 22. That boy Paulie better be ready!!!!”

It’s hard to figure out which guy is going to come out on top judging by their responses because both guys seem too self-assured. There’s no doubt in the minds of either guy that they’re going to win the fight, but someone has got to lose unless the judges score it a draw.

Having seen both of those fighters many times in different bouts, I think Broner should win, but I’m not all that impressed with him as far as him being the second Floyd Mayweather Jr. He’s so far off from where Mayweather was when he was 23. They are literally worlds apart in talent at a similar age. Mayweather was so much better than Broner at 23 and it just makes Broner look bad that he’s acting like he’s following in Mayweather’s footsteps.

I don’t think he’ll make it there because he’s dominating like Mayweather and there are so many guys that could unseat Broner when he does step it up against some of the top light welterweights like Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse.

Malignaggi has the jab and the movement to give Broner huge headaches if he’s able to keep the fight on the outside. Broner likes to set traps for his opponents by waiting for them to come in on him and then nail them with hard left hooks. Malignaggi has got to avoid getting too close because he’ll get nailed if he tries to get inside.

If you can take away Broner’s left hand then he’s still dangerous because of his powerful right hand, but he’s a lot more manageable. Malignaggi will have a fighting chance to win if he can neutralize Broner’s left hook. The fight hand isn’t nearly as dangerous if he’s forced to throw it from a long distance.
