Kessler unconcerned with Froch’s threat to kill him

kessler600(Photo Credit: Thomas Sjoerup) By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) basically laughed off IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s comments made yesterday about wanting to kill him if he has to this Saturday night in their pay per view unification fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Kessler is totally unafraid of Froch after having easily handled him three years ago in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision.

Kessler said on his twitter “Carl Froch says he wants to kill me. That’s not very polite. :)”

I’m really not surprised that Froch went to the next level in talking about killing Kessler because if you saw how wound up Froch was at the press conference, he looked like he was starting to come unglued. I was thinking to myself as I watched Froch, ‘I hope someone has a spare straightjacket because Froch looks like he needs one in the worst way.’ He was so keyed up and the thing is he was doing it to himself just by talking about the fight.

Kessler wasn’t egging him on in any way because Kessler looked like he was nodding off, especially during the part where Froch started yapping at the podium. But it was strange to see Froch start off calm when he first started speaking and then getting himself into a feverish state all by himself. It was both hilarious and scary to watch at the same time. I was thinking what’s happening to Froch. The guy looked like he was having a nuclear meltdown in front of the media.

Froch and Kessler are supposed to be friend, which is what made his death comments seem so bizarre. All I could think is Froch is so incredibly worried about losing the fight that it’s got him worried to death about it. I’m not sure what would change in Froch’s life if he were to get beaten. He’s obviously done well and has a pretty girlfriend and a nice family. He’ll still have all of that if Kessler whips him on Saturday night. It’s not as if it’s all over for Froch. It’ll just be another loss like the ones he suffered in the past against Kessler and Andre Ward.

If Froch goes into the fight like he was at the press conference, I can see Kessler getting a knockout. Froch looked like he was off the leash and you can’t be like that in a fight and expect to win. Sometimes you can win by going berserk, but most of the time the fighter with the calmer, cooler head wins the fight. Froch has got himself so worked up because of his past loss to Kessler, I think he’s not seeing things clearly now.
