Kessler talking retirement if he loses to Froch

kessler2By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) is talking about ending his boxing career if he gets beat by IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) in their rematch in two weeks at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

I don’t know why Kessler would eve talk retirement because the chances are he’s going to win and look sensational in doing so. Is there a possibility he’ll lose? Yeah, but I only see him losing if he gets jobbed. After all, he is fighting Froch in his home country of the UK, and not in a neutral venue.

Under those circumstances, there’s a very real chance that Kessler could lose the fight even if he puts in a master class performance. When you’re fighting in someone else’s hometown or in this case home country, getting shafted kind of goes with the territory. I mean, I hope we don’t see Kessler get the business but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does. But I hope he doesn’t get traumatized by the loss to retire because of it.

Kessler said this to the independent.co.uk “If I can’t win this fight then I’m finished.”

I can sort of understand where Kessler is coming from in saying that. It’s like if he can’t even beat Froch, then things are really bad with his game.

I can relate to Kessler wanting to retire for that reason, but like I said, the only way I see Kessler losing this fight is by a highly controversial decision where Kessler totally dominates like Andre Dirrell did against Froch four years ago in Nottingham, UK, and still end up losing.

If you lose like that then there’s no reason to retire. I count those fights as wins, and I think boxing public does too. The fans basically nullify decisions of the three judges and see it as a win for the other fighter.

I think Kessler is doing to royally thrash Froch on May 25th and make it so bad that there’s no way on earth that the judges can give Froch the decision. This is Kessler vs. Librado Andrade II, as far as I’m concerned.

With Froch fighting more aggressive, he’s going to be walking into shots all night long from Kessler and will end up just like Andrade did when he was totally schooled by Kessler six years ago in a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision win for Kessler.
