Kessler expects Froch to come out fast and make mistakes

froch966By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) believe that IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) has worked himself up to such an emotional state to where he’s going to come out incredibly out of the blocks this Saturday night and make a ton of mistakes that could lead to Froch getting knocked out in front of his loyal British faithful at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Kessler said “Froch has put himself under big pressure by saying all sorts of things, but I know when a fighter does that he can make mistakes, big mistakes. Carl came out very fast against [Lucian] Bute and we all saw what happened. But if he is going to be a bit too aggressive…it will suit me.”

There’s no real mystery about how Froch is going to fight Kessler. I mean, Froch has been saying for weeks now that he plans on using the same approach to the Kessler fight that he did in his 5th round TKO win over Lucian Bute last year by going straight at Kessler like an angry bull and looking to throw 6-punch combinations.

In other words, Froch plans on going after Kessler from the get go and throwing sustained flurries in hopes of doing to him what he did to Bute. I think it’s going to end with disaster on Saturday for Froch because he doesn’t have the hand speed to get away with that kind of approach.

That style worked for Joe Calzaghe in his 12 round unanimous decision win over Kessler in November 2007, but that’s because Calzaghe had the better hand speed. We saw another fighter, Librado Andrade, try that same approach with Kessler in March of 2007 and it failed miserably for Andrade with Kessler totally dominating him.

Froch is about as slow and as easy to hit as Andrade, so if he chooses to throw six-punch combinations, he’s going to get his head boxed off and end up looking foolish in losing in front of his British fans.

The problem with Froch is he hasn’t gotten better, but he thinks he has. Froch’s wins over Bute and Yusaf Mack has planted ideas inside of his head to where he thinks he’s gotten better, but he hasn’t. As such, Froch is going to try the approach to beating Kessler as he did against Bute and it’s going to end in total failure for Froch. I just hope he doesn’t get beat up too badly because it’ll look bad his fans seeing him get thrashed by the Dane.
