Is the Heavyweight division starting to come back to life now that the Klitschkos are nearly gone?

wilder04By Daniel Mcglinchey: After a decade of control by the Ukrainian brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, the majority of boxing fans lost interest in the heavyweight division whether it was down to their boring fight style or lack of competition. Their reign seems to be coming to an end with Vitali looking to go into politics and Wladimir at 37 with not a lot left on the clock.

In my opinion a vast amount of talent and exciting fighters seem to becoming through the ranks, such as undefeated Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s), who currently holds the European title and seems to have the whole of his country rooting for him. He seems willing to step in the ring with anyone and there is no denying he is talented.

Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) a young undefeated Brit, seems to be gaining a lot of interest with his crazy antics whether that be him claiming he can beat anyone in the world or singing in the ring after he has knocked an opponent out. Tyson is exciting in and out of the ring. He has a lot of critics but has won every bout to date and has faced some top opposition.

Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) is the new American hope, with first glance at his record it looks very impressive, and he has massive power in his right hand and has ended the night early with every opponent he has stepped in with. Majority of boxing fans say Deontay is untested but after recently knocking out old timer Audley Harrison, Deontay seems to be saying the right things and now seems to be heading in the right direction, and it will be very interesting to see how he fairs in a bout with a top 10 ranked fighter.

These 3 fighters in my opinion seem to be gaining the most interest. Love them or hate them, you are talking about them.
There are other contenders with big followings coming through the ranks that also seem to be awakening the Heavyweight division such as Liverpudlian powerhouse David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s), undefeated Russian Alexander Povetkin (25-0, 17 KO’s), the peculiar Haitian native Bermane Stiverne (23-1, 20 KO’s), who recently said before fighting Chris Arreola, that he was going to cut his head off.

There are also the likes of former convict Artur Spilka, Londoner David Haye & the Nordic Nightmare Robert Helenius.

The fact a lot of these fighters have formed rivalries with each other makes it all the more interesting, and once the Klitschko’s put an end to their boring reign or before someone else ends it for them, I see the Heavyweight division rising back up to the interest level it had in the past. A lot of the names I have mentioned will go up against each other competing for the belts generating massive interest. Their talent and exciting personalities will finally bring back the Heavyweight division back to life.
