By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport sees this Saturday’s fight between his fighter IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) and Sauerland Promotions fighter WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) as a 50-50 fight, although Hearn does seem to still favor Froch.

Hearn said to thesun.co.uk “I think it’s a pure 50-50 fight, but I think Froch is the favorite because he has the hometown advantage. I do think Carl is fitter, stronger and fresher than Kessler.”

What Hearn seems to be saying is that he doesn’t see it as a 50-50 fight despite starting out by saying it’s a 50-50 fight. I wonder if this some kind of politically correct line Hearn throws out at the start of his conversations to give the media the impression that he’s neutral, but then he blows it completely by getting a bad case of motor mouth and not realizing that he’s veering off from his original neutral stance.

It’s incredibly weird to me. He just babbles and losses his original message by pouring compliments over the head of Froch over and over, as if he can walk on water.

The only thing I agree with Hearn on is that Froch is the hometown fighter and that could give him a huge, huge boost with the judging. I hope that the judges can be impartial, but with the crowd cheering each time Froch misses a punch or lands one of his shots, I can see the judges getting caught up in it and ignoring all the good work that Kessler does in the fight.

That’s why I think Kessler is going to have to really give Froch a beating if he wants to win a decision. Simply dominating every round and appearing to win by a 12 rounds to 0 score might not be enough. It might take some knockdowns in addition to dominating every round for Kessler to walk out of London with Froch’s IBF strap.
