By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is still healing up from his hand injury that he suffered recently in training for his comeback fight against #8 WBC Manuel Charr. Haye’s still not sure how long it’ll be before his hand is healed enough to where he can reschedule the fight, but he’s still interested in facing the wide-bodied Charr.

Haye says he doesn’t see why Audley Harrison can’t come back and continue fighting. Haye’s not against his comeback, and he feels Audley can find success if he’s matched against the right type of opponent; namely someone without huge power, fast hands and big size.

Haye said to I Film London “He [Audley] can beat some world class fighters if he picks his opponents right.”

This is true. If Harrison is matched up against the type of heavyweights that he fought in the Prizefighter tourney, he can do well against them. Haye thinks Audley needs to be fighting guys in the 6’2” to 6’3” range.

As far George Groves, Haye thinks Groves can put himself in position for a world title shot if he beats Noe Gonzalez this Saturday night on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler fight card at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Haye said “He [Groves] can stake his claim on Saturday he’s next for a world title.”

I think it’s going to take more than beating Gonzalez for Groves to get a title shot against Froch. Carl already said that Groves needs to fight two good super middleweight contenders, and he doesn’t consider Noe Gonzalez as good enough to count as fitting that description.

If Eddie Hearn can set Groves up against two quality contenders in back to back fights this year, it’s possible that Groves could get a title shot against Froch next year. But unfortunately, Hearn has seemed reluctant to put Groves in with a live body, so I don’t see him getting a title shot against Froch in 2013 or 2014, and probably never. If it doesn’t happen next year, I think Groves will have lost his chance. Froch will retire and that’ll be that.

Haye is leaning towards Froch in beating Mikkel Kessler this Saturday night, saying “I swing strongly towards Carl Froch. He’s coming off the stronger run of opponents.”

Haye doesn’t see unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury as a quality heavyweight, and he feels it would be an easy fight if he can ever get the 6’9” Fury to agree to fight him. Haye said “The fact that he got put down by Steve Cunningham doesn’t bode well for his future. The shot he got put down with, every single one of my jabs are harder than that punch.”

Haye suspects that Fury will get knocked out before he gets a chance to fight him later on this year.

As far as Manuel Charr goes, Haye says he still wants that fight, and says “As far as I’m concerned, I’m fighting Charr.
