Haye: Charr is slow; I’ll tee off on him when he covers up

haye24By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) intends on teeing off on his painfully slow and lead–footed hand-picked opponent Manuel Charr (23-1, 13 KO’s) in their fight next month on June 29th at the Manchester Arena (formerly M.E.N Arena), in Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom.

Haye sees Charr as just another one of the many slow-footed German based fighters and he intends on blasting him out quick as soon as Charr covers up like he usually does when he fights.

Haye said to Sky Sports News “His feet are slow and like a lot of German-based heavyweights he tends to fight at a leisurely pace and he takes turns to punch…when he covers up, I’ll tee off on him so quickly he’ll think he’s being surrounded.”

What I don’t get is why is Haye even fighting this guy if he’s so terrible? I mean, we already saw WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko totally dominate Charr last September in stopping him in the 4th round, and oddly enough, even Vitali made Charr look slow. That really surprised me because I didn’t think there was any heavyweights that was slower than Vitali, but Charr was definitely slower and he was getting picked off big time with hard shots by Vitali before the fight was halted in the 4th due to Charr bleeding like a stuck pig.

Vitali knocked Charr down in the 2nd round, and you just knew that it was only a matter of time before Vitali finished him off because Charr was plodding right into Vitali’s big punches. I remember thinking to myself as I watched the fight ‘why on earth did Vitali pick this guy to fight. He looked awful, worse Danny Williams.’ Now, I guess Haye wants a piece of that easy action against a guy with an inflated ranking by the World Boxing Council based on wins over 2nd and 3rd tier opposition.
I never expected Haye to fight anyone good, so I’m totally not surprised that he’s fighting Charr because it’s so David Haye.
