Groves: Froch is afraid to lose to me because it’ll hurt his legacy

froch5645By Scott Gilfoid: 25-year-old super middleweight contender George Groves (18-0, 14 KO’s) thinks IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) is dodging a fight against him because he’s worried about how it’ll look if he gets beaten by the still inexperienced and unaccomplished Groves and exposed again.

Groves thinks Froch doesn’t mind risking getting whipped by Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler because both have beaten him before and they’re well known fighters.

Groves said to the Dailystar.co.uk “He would rather fight people like Kessler and Andre Ward who have already beaten him…if he loses to them, fewer questions would be asked. But if beat him he is worried about what it would do to his legacy…I would beat him.”

I hate to say it but I think I agree with Groves. Froch is acting worried as heck and you can tell by the way he drones about Groves when he’s interviewed. Instead of just answering the question with a quick one or two word replay, Froch goes off into monologues that are way more than what’s needed.

If Froch truly wasn’t worried about Groves, he’d brush it off like it was nothing, but he’s doing that. Froch acts concerned and keeps saying that Groves needs to fight guys that he’s already fought before, when the truth is Groves already has. He beat Glen Johnson last year, the same guy Froch beat the year before in 2011. Froch has to know that. I guess he just conveniently forgot.

I smell fear coming from Froch about the Groves fight. I don’t know why he doesn’t just get it over with and fight him. If he’s got the talent then it shouldn’t be a problem, but of course if he doesn’t, then maybe it’s good that he’s choosing not to fight Groves.

Groves is right about Froch having a lot to lose if he gets beaten by him. It’ll definitely mess up his legacy of being one of the best British boxers of all time.

Groves faces Noe Gonzalez (30-2, 22 KO’s) this Saturday night on the Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler undercard at the O2 Arena in London, England. The Groves-Gonzalez is the co-feature. Don’t blink your eyes because you might miss the fight.
