Froch: I’d rather fight Kessler than Ward; he’s not entertaining

froch92By Scott Gilfoid: Just as I thought; all the talk that IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) made about being open to fighting Andre Ward in the UK seems to have been nothing more than lip service. Froch is now saying he prefers to fight Mikkel Kessler a third time rather than getting in the ring with the talented 29-year-old Ward.

Froch said to Sky Sports today: “I’d rather fight someone like him [Kessler] than Andre Ward, because Andre Ward is a spoiler and a ‘messer’, he tricks his way through a fight and gets the win. It’s not very entertaining and it’s a horrible fight to be involved in.”

I bet it’s a horrible fight to be involved with because Ward beats the heck out of his opponents for 12 rounds and there’s never fun. So Froch would rather fight Kessler than Ward, eh? Well, there it is. I knew it.

I knew Froch wasn’t serious about wanting to fight Ward because if you look at Froch’s interview with Max Kellerman after Froch’s win over Kessler, Froch started out saying how Ward isn’t an interesting fighter, how he doesn’t entertain the fans and get them standing up and cheering. It was only after Froch’s long rant was over he said he’d be interested in fighting Ward, but I didn’t buy it and looks like it could be right.

Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn is talking nothing but Froch-Kessler III and not even entertaining the thought of putting Froch in with Ward. Hearn said to thisisnottingham.co.uk “I still think a decider could happen…the venue? It could be in the UK.”

What happened to Froch fighting Kessler in a neutral venue for the third fight? I knew that wasn’t going to happen either. I literally laughed when I heard the talk of Froch and Hearn possibly fighting Kessler in a neutral venue because I figured they would use Froch’s two titles as the reason for why it could only happen in the UK because he’s got the straps.

If I’m Kessler I wouldn’t agree to fight Froch in the UK, no way. It would have to be either a neutral venue like Germany. Denmark would be good. They could even flip a coin to decide the venue. I think that would be fair.

But Man, I’m so not surprised that Froch and his promoter want no part of fighting Ward again. It’s so predictable that it’s just sad.

Ward needs to put Froch and Kessler out of his mind forever. I know people are going to keep asking him about those guys in every interview, but Ward should just change the topic when their names are brought up because it’s a waste of time to even talk about it. Ward doesn’t need Froch or Kessler to make his legacy because HE’S the one that beat them both badly.

If they don’t want to try and avenge their defeats, and that’s what it looks like, then that’s on them. I just know that if Ward were beaten by one of them, he’d be working hard to avenge his loss.

Ward needs to get busy and fight the best guys he can get. Froch and Kessler can fight each other for the remainder of what’s left of their careers, and winner of their fights will always be considered the #2 fighter in the division because the #1 guy will always be Ward.
