Dereck Chisora faces Malik Scott in 10 rounder on July 20th

chisora232By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (16-4, 10 KO’s) takes a dangerous test against unbeaten American heavyweight Malik Scott (35-0-1, 12 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on July 20th at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. Chisora had hoped to fight another American Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s), but Wilder was unable to take the fight at this early stage.

However, he does remain very interested in facing Chisora in the future. Of course, Wilder’s interest in facing Chisora may disappear if looks as bad as he did in his last fight against Hector Alfredo Avila last April.

Chisora looked sloppy, tired and past it in winning a 9th round TKO over the 38-year-old fighter. If Chisora fights like that against Scott, he’ll lose the fight, it’s as simple as that. Scott isn’t an injured fighter like two of Chisora’s opponents – Vitali Klitschko and Robert Helenius – were when they fought him and he likes to throw a lot of punches. His work rate alone will create nightmare for Chisora, who is more of a pot shot fighter that takes a lot of rest breaks.

Scott is coming off of a controversial 10 round draw against Vyacheslav Glazkov last March in a fight that Scott appeared to win by at least four rounds in my estimation. I couldn’t believe the scoring in that fight because Scott appeared to be the clear winner. One judge had Scott up by a 98-92 score at the end of the fight, and I’m okay with that.

The 29-year-old Chisora has lost four out of his last six fights and is coming into this fight badly in need of a win to get himself back into the world rankings. I think Chisora is making a mistake in taking on Scott because this guy has a good chin and he’ll definitely outwork him in this 10 round bout.

Scott will be the visiting fighter, so he’s going to have to really put it on Chisora if he wants to make sure he walks out of the ring with the decision. He can’t afford to let the fight be close if he wants to make sure he gets the victory.
